Microsoft SharePoint – Find out what its all about – FREE Spring Seminars

sharepoint imageMicrosoft SharePoint will be increasingly seen as the glue which integrates Microsoft applications, but what is it and what does it do?

Microsoft Sharepoint is a data distribution portal – think of it as a notice board. Microsoft is using Sharepoint to publish data from all of their data sources. This means that in one screen you can see and interact with data from, for example:

            Microsoft Office documents
            Microsoft Project
            Microsoft Exchange
            Microsoft ERP applications
            Microsoft Excel spreadsheets
            Microsoft SQL server databases
            Microsoft – everything else!
            Non Microsoft Other applications

The tight integration of Sharepoint enables web distribution for all of the other applications very easily through a single portal. This means a users I.T. experience should be accessible through a single browser based application – Sharepoint. It is hard to describe the application of such a broad based technology – it’s like asking what electricity can achieve.

Sharepoint has inherent Intranet style functionality including calendars, document management (version, date and access controlled), workflow management and much more.

Datafile Moving Up A Gear
datafilelogo

Sense have been implementing and supporting Datafile Accounting and Business Management Software since 1993 and are the Liverpool based companies largest and most successful reseller supporting over 200 systems.

Key to our success is the ability to give the client exactly what they want in a cost effective way. “Datafile is a superb accounting system but the real value for our clients comes from the extended functionality in the surrounding modules, Order Processing, Distribution and Stock Control, Job Costing etc.. All of the modules are very flexible and easily tailored which means we can give our customers exactly what they want at a very reasonable cost compared with other systems on the market,” explains Sense Director, Terry Moore.

Bright Future

In July 2007 Steve Ashcroft, the original author of Datafile, took complete control of the business after the retirement of Managing Director, John Roberts. Steve is very positive about how he will develop the product range and has recently announced the product “roadmap” to ensure he keeps the company moving in the right direction.

In the Spring Datafile will release Version 6.0 which sees major improvements in the following areas:

  1. Capacity and Speed

The core system database doubling the current capacity and number of items 160 to 320. The maximum record size is also doubled and there is increased functionality available in the Ledger Enquiries function which supports document management.

  1. Improved Web Shop Module

The new functionality takes the existing online shopping functionality to a far higher degree of flexibility, ease of use and cost efficiency. The improvements are the direct result of development work carried out for several major online retailers and improves both the B2C and B2B capability.

  1. Microsoft SQL Compatibility

This will allow users to have any of your Datafile data mirrored in an SQL database. This can be either a Microsoft SQL database system on your server or even a mySql database on a website maintained real time. This really does open up the doors for Datafile acting as a source of data to many other applications.

  1. Advanced CRM Module

Customer Relationship Management doesn’t just apply to customers, it can help build and maintain stronger relations with anyone you deal with including suppliers, employees, orders, jobs. Datafile will be offering a range of CRM related features built into the core system for instant access from any part of the system.

Datafile have also greatly improved the link to Microsoft Office and Outlook making it simple to create documents, spreadsheets and send emails directly from Datafile whilst automatically story the documents against the relevant account record for instant access. The email link with Microsoft Outlook will also allow incoming mail to be stored with accounts.

New Website

The above represents a clear message from the new management team at Datafile and this is reflected in the newly launched website www.datafile.co.uk which provides there 7500 UK users with online access to product developments and how to get more out of their Datafile Software.

Sense People – Chris Burgess

Sense Computers would like to welcome a new addition to their team.  Chris Burgess joined Sense Computers in December 2007 as part of his placement year at Nottingham Trent University.  He has joined our marketing team as Chirs Burguss PictureMarketing Coordinator, in order to put into practice the theory he has learnt throughout his degree and further his understanding of the business world.  In the short time that Chris has been working at Sense, he has gained a clearer understanding of the computer industry and how sales and marketing works within a small business.
Chris says:
“Working at Sense within an active marketing team has helped me bring together the theory I have learnt at University and the practical experience of working within a small to medium size business. The team here has been phenomenal, so far they have given me large amounts of responsibility and are there to help whenever required.  I am now looking forward to furthering my career as far as possible once I have graduated”
